I recently went on a trip that I thought was a vacation… turned out to be an adventure!
Let me tell you why.
Our plane landed just after a Typhoon hit in Manila, Philippines. We sat on the runway for 30 min’s. after traveling over 16hrs to get there. Nothing could prepare me for what I was about to see. The pain, the shock and the courage displayed made my heart burst with compassion.
A few days later we left Manila for Boracay Island… heading to paradise.
We just missed another Typhoon by Divine grace.
Why had we been spared and why did so many have to face this challenge.
My personal assistant Kaye was trapped in the second floor of her home with her husband and children. With the whole lower level of the house flooded, she didn’t know if it would reach the second level. They lost all of their furniture and things that they just couldn’t get upstairs in time.
Kaye amazed me with her fortitude and ability to rebound from this natural catastrophe.
It didn’t really hit me fully until I got home… the reality of pain and suffering that people endure. The grief, loss and sadness of reality. We never truly know what will happen in the next moment.
I cried for two days… I think I was clearing and releasing for many that were touched by the typhoons. My heart cracked open and I could feel the deep yearning to reach for what is meaningful in life.
Things mean nothing. Stop striving to accumulate things. Spend time with those you love. Connect. Be in selfless service. Take action. People are suffering all around the world. Do something to help. All of these things ran through my head.
I pray to remember, every day, these lessons from my trip to the Philippines.
Remember what life is really about… LOVE
